DESCRIPTION
       

Nifedipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, it causes dilatation of vessels and hence decreases the blood pressure. It interferes with the calcium ions transport inside the membrane in regulating blood pressure. Unlike Verapamil, it is given with Atenolol which is selective beta 1 receptor blocker. Verapamil is L-type calcium channel blocker of the phenylalkylamine class.  Nifedipine is available by the brand name of Adalat.
