Nephropathic cystinosis is lysosomal storage disease which affects, infants, adolescents and adults. The adult form is non-specific. It is characterized by corneal crystals causing photophobia and renal disease causing excessive urination with excessive excretion of amino acids and carbohydrates. Mercaptamine (cysteamine) is used in the treatment of cystinosis and is available in the capsules and in eye drop formulations.
