Pharma Quiz- Potential Error 4

4-The graduated cylinder weighs 42.745 grams, when added distilled water, it weighs 47.675 grams. According to the definition the weight of 5 ml of distilled water must be 5 grams. Calculate the weight of distilled water and the related potential error in percentage.

Answer: 1.4%

Solution to the Answer:
Theoretical Weight of Distilled Water = 5 grams or 5000 mg
Weight of Graduated Cylinder + Distilled Water= 47.675 grams
Weight of Graduated Cylinder= 42.745 grams
Actual Weight of distilled water= (weight of graduated cylinder + distilled water)- weight of graduated cylinder
Actual Weight of Distilled Water = 4.93 grams
Sensitivity Requirement = Theoretical Weight of Distilled Water-Actual Weight of Distilled Water
                                              = 5 - 4.93

                                              = 0.07 grams or 70 mg
