Pharma BCQ- Myasthenia Gravis

ANSWER: b) Inderal

DESCRIPTION

Myasthenia Gravis is muscle weakness with fatigue which may ultimately leads to the paralysis of the associated muscle. It is characterized by the lack of binding of acetylcholine to the postsynaptic receptors of the neuromuscular junction. The most common sign is the drooping of the eyelid that is ptosis. Inderal contains propranolol which is a non-selective β-blocker; it must be taken in caution with patients having Myasthenia Gravis. The use of the drug for the short term is not proved to be risky however chronic long-term use of the drug needs monitoring. Even calcium channel blockers must be used with caution in Myasthenia Gravis.
